Jason LEE – UBS AG

“After completing my exchange program in 2016-2017 Term 2, I immediately joined UBS AG as their summer intern in Group Operations. I was assigned to the team of Securities Borrowing and Lending (SBL) Middle Office. The major role of the team is to support the SBL trading desk as the traders conduct their business.

During the internship, I was given an ample amount of work within my team such that I could be really involved with the team and the firm, as well as learn the most – technically and personally – out of those ten weeks. In addition, I was also given two internship projects so that I could understand what working in a bank would be like, apart from completing tasks belonging to my team. Apart from the work and projects, this experience also helped me connect and make friends with peers and professionals from the bank.

From this internship, and based on what I have learnt from the GLEF curriculum, I gained much greater understanding of the global financial markets, as I had had hands-on experience in dealing with the real-life operation of the banking industry, and also the opportunity to work with teams from various regions over the world. Before joining this internship program, I had little concrete knowledge about what it means to work in Operations in a bulge bracket investment bank. Thanks to this opportunity – which I could not have managed to grasp without the help from GLEF – I have known much more about the reality of working in banking in finance. In other words, this GLEF practicum project is definitely a proper wrap-up of my exploration of the financial industry throughout my university life.”
