Stephanie CHU - HEC Paris, France

“In the 2nd term of my 3rd year in CUHK, I was lucky to go to Paris for exchange in one of the most prominent European business school, HEC Paris. It was a once-a-lifetime experience to me. As a student, it was my first time to go to a school outside Hong Kong. As a daughter, it was my first time to be away from my parents for such a long period of time. As a ““Hong Konger””, it was my first time to experience and adapt to a foreign lifestyle.

I like the teaching style in HEC a lot. The students are smart and proactive. They do not only answer questions from professors in class, but also raise questions frequently regarding the topics discussed. Classes are interactive and you can therefore have a deeper understanding to the materials taught.

Moreover, I had the chance to attend classes that I could not find in Hong Kong. For example, I had a course on wine marketing, introducing the wine making procedure and the wine culture. It was a very valuable experience as drinking wine is so popular in France. This provides a nurturing and practical environment to learn something about wine. We even went to a wine tasting event in the Argentina Embassy as our professor is a wine event organizer.

Apart from all the exciting and fruitful experience in Paris, I also travelled around Europe at weekends and during holidays. Those were indeed eye-opening moments during my exchange journey. From January to June, I travelled to 16 countries for more than 30 cities. I have been in the nature of Switzerland, the music of Prague, the fjord of Norway, and the old streets of Britain etc. Sometimes I travelled with new friends met in HEC, while sometimes I travelled alone. Through chit-chatting with the local people there or other travellers, I knew a lot more about people’s thinking and different cultures. All those times are precious memories that I will treasure forever.”
